Moana 2 (2024)

After receiving a call from her way-finding ancestors, Moana (Auliʻi Cravalho) tries to unite her people by journeying to the far seas of Oceania (along with a new crew and a tattooed Maui, Dwayne Johnson.)

Moana 2 hits familiar beats with a slight, yet oddly convoluted plot (try and explain the story!) But despite this, it remains engaging and fun with jaw dropping animation.

Early on, Moana sings a big ballad and later, Maui has his own catchy song. Familiar. The coconut Kakamora are back (and might not be all they seem) and instead of a crab, this time we have a (er) giant, blobfish monster? Familiar. And of course, there's another larger than life big bad to face in Nalo! Familiar.

The songs aren't as good, although they're fine (sadly no Lin-Manuel Miranda) but the characters are still great (Moana's facial expressions are still hilarious) and overall this is an entertaining sequel. Far too good for straight to Disney+ (as was originally the plan, it was a re-worked series.)

Hualālai Chung is good value as Moni (Maui's biggest fan.)
