Every man, George Bailey (a phenomenal James Stewart) wants to leave small town, Bedford Falls, like his younger brother, Harry (Todd Karns), but he's stuck running the family business, The Building and Loan, which Mr. Potter (a Scrooge type businessman, Lionel Barrymore) desperately wants to get his hands on.
One night, down on his luck George meets an Angel called Clarence (a brilliant Henry Travers.) Clarence shows George a reality where he was never born and how this profoundly affects his family and friends (and us too!)
IAWL is one of the greatest films of all-time. Full of memorable characters, scenes and dialogue, the ending is sure to melt even the hardest of hearts, as we realise the true power of friendship and community.
Donna Reed is superb as Mary Hatch, George's love interest and future wife, and Thomas Mitchell is excellent as scattershot, Uncle Billy. A masterpiece. Merry Christmas.
