Clark W. Griswold (Chevy Chase) and long suffering wife, Ellen (Beverly D'Angelo) want a perfect family Christmas but everything that can go wrong, will go wrong, in this 3rd instalment (and the best) of the Vacation series.
Chase is on great form here. Whether he's annoying his snooty neighbours (Julia Louis-Dreyfus, TV's Seinfeld, and Nicholas Guest), singing Carols with his family in the car (including children: Juliette Lewis and Johnny Galecki), or trying to fit the world's largest Christmas tree into the living room, he excels!
There are some genuinely funny scenes, the best sees Clark running up the stairs with a Squirrel on his back! Randy Quaid is on fine form as the cousin from hell, who shows up unannounced and wants to stay, with his wife and kids.
It can be too silly (Clark needs that bonus if only to pay for his electricity bill!), but it's also extremely quotable, with great heart and wonderful festive spirit.
