On a cold winter’s day, a young boy (James) builds a snowman, that night it magically comes to life! Like the book (on which this short film is based),
The Snowman is entirely wordless. First airing in 1982 on the fledging television channel, Channel 4 (in the UK), it doesn't feel like Christmas until you've seen this, again!
The film was produced using traditional animation techniques, consisting of pastels and crayons, which were traced over hand drawn frames.
The Snowman is thrilling and funny with memorable scenes throughout. The highlight sees the Snowman and James taking to the air (and flying to the North Pole) to Peter Auty's classic song 'Walking in the Air.'
Try and watch the original version with the David Bowie beginning, it sets the mood for what's to follow, just right. The Snowman is a pitch perfect masterpiece. If ever there was a Christmas classic deserving of multiple viewings, this is it!
