Kickboxer (1989)

In Thailand, Kurt's fighter brother, Eric Sloane (Dennis Alexio) is paralyzed in the ring by Muay Thai fighter, Tong Po (Michel Qissi.) Kurt seeks revenge, and seeks out wise old man, Xian Chow (Dennis Chan) to train him.

Jean-Claude Van Damme's real life martial arts skills are impressive, delivering on both the training sequences and the fight choreography, as you can see that Van Damme (as Kurt) is actually doing this!

Haskell Anderson is likable as Winston Taylor, an American Army vet who helps Kurt in Thailand and Rochelle Ashana is good value as niece Mylee. The acting throughout though is just about passable.

While still violent, the end fight is a little dated now, and perhaps not as brutal as it once appeared. Still, the amount of punishment these fighters take would easily kill them! The Thailand scenery comes to life in 4K (with stunning architecture) and the 80's soundtrack is decent.
