Lee Harker, an FBI agent in the 1990s (Maika Monroe) is tasked with tracking down an occultist serial killer responsible for murdering multiple families throughout Oregon.
Longlegs has a couple of effective jump scares but it isn't particularly scary. The slow, creepy vibe works well with the dark material, but it doesn't exactly warrant re-watches. It's a little depressing.
Monroe shows little emotion throughout and while Nicolas Cage is suitably over the top (practically hidden behind effective makeup), it was a mistake to reveal the killer so early on, while also putting the actor's name on the opening credits.
Director Perkins displays some clever camera tricks with flashing nightmarish, almost subliminal imagery appearing on the screen (while playing with the film's aspect ratio), which is interesting, but the nonsensical satanic resolve isn't really worth waiting for. Lee just stands there! Watchable.
