Captain America: Brave New World (the 35th film in the franchise) is a return to form, offering a more realistic, grounded Marvel film, harking back to the days of The Winter Solider (2014), although not reaching that insurmountable, high bar.
It's a political thriller with a mostly serious tone and commanding performances from both Anthony Mackie as Sam Wilson / the new Captain America and Harrison Ford as Thaddeus Ross, the newly elected President of the United States.
With ties to The Incredible Hulk (2008) the story is about Wilson investigating a conspiracy involving President Thaddeus Ross. The newly discovered Adamantium plays a big part in the plot. There are good (but sadly not great) action scenes throughout, with well written dialogue and surprising cameos.
Xosha Roquemore is good value as Leila Taylor, a Secret Service agent who works for President Ross, while Shira Haas is Ruth Bat-Seraph, an Israeli former Black Widow. She's so tiny that it's far-fetched when she takes down a room of bad guys!
Carl Lumbly is Isaiah Bradley, Giancarlo Esposito is Seth Voelker / Sidewinder and Tim Blake Nelson is cellular biologist, Samuel Sterns, who round off an excellent cast.
